Reasons Kids Should Learn Piano
In today’s electronically-controlled
world, kids of all ages have a whole lot of options when it
comes to the extracurricular they devote themselves and their
time to. They can choose to play video games – with the
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii systems out, they
have lots of options; and each of those gaming consoles has a
huge host of games available for them to play. They’ve also got
the option of the computer and the internet, where they can
spend hours with their friends, or the trusty old television
which airs cartoons and other similar shows. However, many
parents find that they want their kid to learn piano instead
and they have many good reasons why.
Learning any instrument – not just piano – is beneficial in
multiple ways to any child no matter their age. Learning piano
teaches them to be disciplined – learning how to play and then
master an instrument takes careful planning and execution if
one wants to improve. They also learn what it means to be
dedicated – it takes literally thousands of hours and many,
many lessons before someone can call themselves a master at any
instrument and the piano is no different. It helps keep the
mind active; learning any kind of instrument stimulates the
mind in ways that watching TV or playing video games can’t.
Kids even find that their confidence level increases
dramatically because playing an instrument is not common by any
means and devoting the time to learn one is something many find
immensely impressive.
A kid that learns to play piano is also much more likely to
succeed in school and stay away from trouble. This is partly
because children who gravitate towards studious activities –
the ones who naturally do better in school, in other words –
actually find learning to play the piano a very enjoyable
activity. This means that they are naturally less likely to get
caught up in anything that they should be staying away from –
drugs, alcohol, gangs, etc. Honestly, kids who have regular
piano or instrument practices don’t even really have time to
get involved in that kind of stuff because their plates are
full enough as it is!
Piano is also considered one of the most enjoyable instruments
as well. Older kids even note that people are attracted to
those who play instruments. While younger children won’t care
about that, it’s enough of a draw for many older kids to stick
with it. A kid learning to play piano is a good thing in many
ways.
